Fan mail

I have a big Rubbermaid bin in my bedroom closet that is full of photos and mementos.  One day a few weeks ago I was going through it and I found a beautiful photo of Guy, a black and white of him on the faceoff.  And I thought, wouldn't it be cool if I could somehow get Guy to sign it?

(The photo in question.  I don't remember where I got it from.)

So I typed up a letter and sent it and the photo off to RDS, where Guy works as an on-air analyst.  Fifteen days later (yes, I kept count), I received this.

(Yes, my full first name is Lisa-Marie.  No, my parents are not Elvis fans.)

How cool is that!  What an absolute class act Carbo is.  I love that he also signed it at the bottom "HOF 19."  In the letter I wrote to Guy, I congratulated him on his induction and also talked about how annoyed I used to get every June when he got passed over.

Here is the address I used, if anyone else wants to send Guy some fan mail.

Guy Carbonneau
RDS
1755 Boul. Rene-Levesque Est
Bureau 300
Montreal, QC  H2K 4P6

If requesting an autograph, be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

The signed photo is now framed on my wall and I couldn't be happier.  Merci, Guy.  You are the best.

Carbo on Jean Beliveau; also, a strange video and a banana bread recipe

Habs icon Jean Beliveau passed away this week at the age of 83.  Guy did an interview with TSN Radio in which he talks about Beliveau's influence on his career.  You can find it here.

Here is a strange little video from RDS.  It's in French so I can't make heads or tails of what's going on, but Guy is dressed as a judge so it's certainly odd.  (If any of my Francophone readers would like to clue me in on what the video is about, it would be much appreciated.)

And finally, here is something I meant to post long ago and just recently found again.  The recipe for Guy's favorite banana bread (from his wife Line) has surfaced on the Internet.  Here it is!

That's all for now -- but as one final note that has nothing to do with Carbo, this Sens fan would like to congratulate Daniel Alfredsson on a spectacular career and also to wish him a very happy retirement.  Thank you for your years of hockey and for your service to our community.  You're the best!

The RDS crew off-duty

...or at least, watching the Canadiens in action while waiting to go on-air during intermission.

Carbo's sass, and the Dallas Stars All-Time Team

I'm sure some of my readers will remember Alex Kovalev's complaints about Guy to the Russian media back when Kovalev played for the Habs and Guy was coach.  Kovalev is now a member of the Florida Panthers, and prior to the Canadiens-Panthers matchup last night, Guy joked on RDS that Kovalev worked hard in practice, but played "one game out of three" for him.  And hence, I have coined a new nickname for Guy:  Sassonneau.

And in 2013, the Stars are celebrating 20 years in "The Big D," and what better way to celebrate than to have fans vote on an all-time Dallas Stars team?  Of course, being me, I voted to put Carbo and his son-in-law, Brenden Morrow, on the first forward line.  :)  You too can have your say in whether Guy makes the All-Time Team by voting here.  Voting ends February 6 -- vote as often as you can!

Carbo on selection committee of new RDS series

With the NHL lockout still in full swing, RDS, Quebec's 24-hour sports network and the French-language division of TSN, is about to take a look at at the greatest players ever to don the Montreal Canadiens uniform.  L'Ultime Classement will be a 11-part series on the franchise.  Guy is on a selection committee that also includes former Habs players P.J. Stock and Vincent Damphousse and journalists Bertrand Raymond, Michael Farber, and Pierre Houde.  In addition, hockey journalists representing the other Original Six cities were invited to participate.

The series is slated to debut on January 7.  (The Windsor Star, via the Montreal Gazette)

A brief update

Found this neat, short promo for Guy on RDS the other day.

Also, of course this blog is doing updates on Movember -- here's a good read from the blog Hab It Her Way on why the cause is so important.

A mishmash

With the NHL locked out, the Tournee des Joueurs tour organized by Maxime Talbot and Bruno Gervais and touring across Quebec, has been going strong.  Guy has signed on to coach Team Montreal.  Recent addition to the Canadiens roster, Colby Armstrong, tweeted this photo of himself with his coaches, Guy and Jacques Demers:

My coaches for tonight! This is awesome! Growing up a habs fan as a kid this is pretty great.     (source:  Twitter / @armdog)

Meanwhile, Carbo is still maintaining his gig as an RDS analyst.  Recently on L'Antichambre, himself and the rest of the AC gang were up to some '70s hijinks.

And the venerable Canadiens historical website tells of a prank that Guy and Chris Nilan played on teammates Mike Lalor and Chris Chelios back in the day.  You can read the story here.
