Carbo does breakfast

Guy has teamed up with Holiday Inn Express to promote the hotel chain's breakfasts.  Going head to head with longtime rival Doug Gilmour and refereed by Mike Johnson, the challenge for Guy was to create the best breakfast using items from Holiday Inn's menu.  And as fate would have it, he won!

The promo video is a blast and you can watch it here.

In addition, Guy also appeared on Breakfast Television in Montreal this week to talk about the challenge as well as the Habs, who have since been eliminated from playoff contention.

All in all, good fun!

An absolute GEM of a video

Found this while perusing YouTube this evening, a 1981 news report from Radio-Canada (the French-language arm of the CBC) on Guy when he was playing with the Habs' farm team at the time, the Nova Scotia Voyageurs of the AHL.  The video is in French but it is a definite must-see!

Oh, so young!  Enjoy!

Guy tries his hand at reffing

Well, sort of.

To celebrate the new Canadiens season, Guy teamed up with legendary Habs organist Diane Bibeau and Toronto punk band F*cked Up for a music video for Red Bull Music Academy.  As a referee.  Go figure!

Enjoy!

Guy on Kirk Muller's re-hiring by the Habs

Interviewed by the Montreal Gazette, Guy recently had some kind words about Kirk Muller, who has just been re-hired by the Montreal Canadiens as an assistant coach.  Muller was originally hired as an assistant coach by Carbo when he took over as head coach of the Habs in 2006.

This video was shot at a Pro-Am tournament in Brossard, QC to support Alzheimer's research.

The Carbonneau song returns to YouTube

Hi there, all!  Apologies for my extended absence from the blog (that thing called Real Life has been kicking me in the butt, but I have a post coming up soon with all the latest Carbo news).  I wanted to post about a gem of a song on YouTube.  It is by Kristopher Newby, and is an excellent tribute to Guy and all his accomplishments.  It was on YouTube years ago, disappeared, and has now returned with a backing track (which sounds great) and photos.

Here it is!  Enjoy!  You can also download the song here.

Carbo in Kingston, and poker

A brief update:

Guy will be making a visit to Kingston, Ontario for Feb Fest, which takes place from February 5 to February 8 in downtown Kingston, where he will be signing autographs. (source)

Also, there's this video from Conan Foods from the Royale Invitational Poker Tour 2014, which features Guy.

Enjoy, until next time!

Some marvelous Carbo media

First off, an intermission interview with Stars broadcaster Daryl Reaugh from Monday night, when Guy was honored as part of the Stars' 20th Anniversary team.  I'm not able to embed it here for whatever reason but here is the link.

Also, Guy on CHOM Radio in Montreal on Thursday.  The link to that is here.  Very cute at the end when the other (female) interviewer admits her crush on Guy and asks him about his ties!

Hopefully these will make up for my missing Flashback Friday!

Flashback Friday #2: La Petite Vie, 1994

In 1994, after winning the Stanley Cup with the Habs, Guy appeared on the Quebec comedy show La Petite Vie.  Can't understand a word of it, but he's a pretty good actor from the looks of it:

Background on La Petite Vie:  It first began as a sketch of the Quebec comedy duo Ding et Dong, formed by Claude Meunier and Serge Theriault, and aired on Radio-Canada (the French language arm of the CBC) from 1993 to 1999.  To date, it is the only Canadian TV series (of either language) to gather more than 4 million viewers, which happened twice in 1995.  It also holds a Guinness World Record for the highest market share ever achieved by a single television program.

More new videos

First off, another World Poker Tour video that features a soundbite from Guy:

Secondly, some wonderful videos from the 1993 playoffs have been posted.  Of course, the Canadiens, the Cup winners that year, will forever be remembered for their 10 consecutive overtime wins in the playoffs.  Two of those OT winning goals were scored by Carbo.  The first came on May 4, 1993 against Buffalo in the Adams Division final (video in French):

The second came on May 20, 1993 in the Wales Conference final against the New York Islanders (video also in French).

Some World Poker Tour videos.

First, Carbo in the shootout with Phil Kessel:

Next, L'Antichambre has done a wonderful feature on Carbo's poker experience last weekend (in French, though the dialogue at the poker table is in English).  I can't link/embed the videos directly but if you go to the L'Antichambre home page you can access the videos via the selection bar at the bottom of the page.

Enjoy!

Carbo in rare PSA

Found this while surfing YouTube this evening.  It always delights me when new Carbonneau material gets posted, especially stuff from the early years.  This is a 1983 public service announcement for Grands Freres (Big Brothers), in Quebec.

Happy Thanksgiving to those in the USA who celebrate!

Small roundup

Here's a photo of Guy taken at Saturday's alumni game in Ottawa:

A few video links I found:  Here's Guy (in English) on why you shouldn't buy a counterfeit jersey (from last year's awareness campaign) and a brief Dallas Stars highlight video (the blood in that first shot!).

Finally, here's a State of the 'Stache update, screencapped from RDS this evening:

As my friend Ron says, it's a pubestache with 36 years experience.

An oldie but a goodie

Tonight, in the Sens vs. Leafs game, Sergei Gonchar of the Senators fought against Clarke MacArthur of the Maple Leafs.  Gonchar, shall we say, is not known for fighting -- this was only his second-ever NHL fight.  Many have noted that his first fight, in 1998, was against another player not known for fighting -- Carbo.

hockeyfights.com then dug up the clip:

Thanks to that particular website for posting this!  If you get the chance, do visit.

Guy Carbonneau, Stanley Cup Champion

Of course, Carbo is a three-time Stanley Cup champion.  This entry is about his first, in 1986.  On a Montreal Canadiens team loaded with rookies -- most notably, goaltender Patrick Roy -- Guy notched seven goals and five assists in the '86 playoffs.  The Habs won the Stanley Cup on May 24, beating the Calgary Flames in five games.

My boyfriend Erik uploaded this video, of Carbo being interviewed in French after his first Cup win.  Enjoy.

another funny, courtesy of Guy himself

If I may be a puckbunny for a moment, this is just cute.

Apparently our hero is finding the time on RDS a little long.  This was posted on YouTube by three different people.  Moral of the story:  don't get caught yawning on RDS, or it'll wind up on the Internet for posterity.

Another Carbo YouTube oddity

In this one, Carbo helps to lip-sync a song about Maurice Richard.  While watering his plants.

Sunday, 2 October 2011

Guy sometimes shows up in the strangest places.

YouTube is a wonder in modern cyberspace.  Videos from all eras can be found on this website -- everything old is new again.

I was alerted to this oddity.  This is Andre Philippe Gagnon's "La Canada" music video.  Watch for Carbo at around 1:28.  There is no date on this but I'd say that it's from around the time Guy was captain of the Canadiens.

I'll be featuring more Carbonneau videos in the coming months; stay tuned!
